La Playa Agency is developing an innovative birthing center initiative specifically designed for Black indigenous women with proven lineage to Yamassee, Seminole, Creek, Freedman or other federally recognized or acknowledged tribes. This project aims to address the unique needs of this community and provide culturally sensitive maternal care.
Key aspects of the initiative include:
1. Targeted locations: South Carolina, Florida, and California
2. Eligibility: Women must demonstrate tribal affiliation or genealogical connections
3. Cultural sensitivity: Centers will incorporate traditional practices and values
4. Current status: In the design phase, with fundraising efforts to begin soon
This initiative seeks to create a safe, supportive environment for Black indigenous women during childbirth, addressing historical disparities in maternal care.
